Major Pattern Surgery Part 4 - and a plea for help!

The dress - it is done! I shortened the sleeves, re-did the inverted pleats, and added facings.

Here are pics...

Plea for help:

Dear Internet Readers - if there ever was a time to de-lurk, it is now! I implore you, tell me what you think. (And forward it on to all your friends, and make them tell me too...) For the record, my parents like it (they aren't an impartial audience though), and my brother, aka the photographer, thinks there's something wrong with it, but can't figure out what it is.

Please, please, please, comment...

1. Can I wear this dress out in public without looking like a reject from the 80's?

2. If I can, where would I wear this dress?

3. Is there anything I should change about this dress?

Be anonymous if you would prefer... I really need opinions.

I LOVE IT. Seriously, wear it out to dinner, to dancing, to company holiday parties, to church...get the idea? It's fabulous, Reethi, you can wear it ANYWEAR! Good call on the sleeves, I like the finished product much much better.

PS Please move to Chicago so we can sew together!

I agree with Sarah.(and not just because she's my sister and can beat me up!) Really, the sleeves made the whole dress better- the long sleaves made it dowdy looking. And you really can wear it wherever you want- its all in how you accessorize. It looks good with heels, but I bet with flats, it would be equally as cute.

Sarah sent me too...

The dress is really sharp. The back looks good and the sleeves short are nice.

There is something missing on the neckline IMHO. I think I'd add accessories for sure. A scarf around your neck or something.

You do nice work!!

Sarah also sent me...I think that the dress is great and that you can wear it exactly as is wherever you should happen to want to wear it...Good work!!!

No problem at all wearing this beautiful dress! Wear it with pride.

I'd like to see it with accessories. The right bold necklace and earrings would pull the outfit together. Maybe a touch of red?

I love the fabric choice - very flattering. The fit is awesome, and the back view is great! I felt like there was something "off" too when I saw the full length front. Methinks it would look even better if it stopped just below the knees. What do you think?

Nice work on the dress. The fabric makes it look like a business dress to wear to the office. But the way the skirt hangs gives it that fun flirty feeling.

I like it too! I don't think I'd add too much by way of accessories to it because the stripes make it busy enough. A solid colour jacket in a nice red would add a business component. I think a scarf or a belt would be too much. Maybe a nice necklace could dress it up but nothing too fussy. Maybe I would add dark stockings too, to dress it up. But it looks good all by itself.

I love it! I think you can wear it anyway you like, depending on the accessories! It does look good with those heels!

I've never been here before, I came from crazy mom quilts. As soon as I saw the dress I wanted it. You should wear it. Anywhere. Everywhere. Just wear it. You look lovely in it.

I'm back. I thought I commented days ago. I think the dress is adorable. I looove what you did with the stripes. There is nothing about this that says Laura Ashley 1980s. It reads cheeky, fun and flirty. Which may not fit with you beer drinking football watching mode, but it totally works on you.

It's my first time visiting your blog and I love the dress and the fabric you picked for it. I've looked twice but can't see anything wrong with it. It fits you just right, excellent with high heels!

It's lovely, and lovely on you. But for a younger look, try shortening the sleeves. This will visually slim your bodice area and enhance your curves. Just baste the hem up and try it--sometimes a couple of inches make all the difference.

I think it is cute. I'd wear a thick belt with it and some funky jewelry. You look great!

I just found this post. What did you end up doing with the dress? I think it looks great. I do think it might look better if you shortened the sleeves though. Sorry if my opinion is way to late.

Hi there, I love the dress but agree that it could look better. I was scrolling down through past entries as this is the first time I've visited. I saw a pic in the post from November 29 without sleeves. I thought it looked fantastic that way on you. It really elongated your length, very flattering. I know your prob over it by now but do go back and have a look at the pic. Luv your blog will continue learking. Rubydarling
