Vintage Advance Dress - the muslin, finally!

Finally! Its not that this was a complicated dress, because it wasn't. The instructions were clear, there weren't too many fitting issues, but somehow, I just couldn't find time to sew. Ah, the perils of a social life.

Anyway, I had a few hours yesterday, and a few hours today (watching the Cavs Celtics game and slip-stitching - so much slip-stitching on this dress!), so I finally got it done.

I had to do a bit of fitting for the bodice. It was hard to figure out where to do a petite alteration on the bodice, because of the princess seams. I sewed up the bodice, and then took off an inch of the bottom. I should have taken off two. To compensate (I'd already basted the zipper) I took an inch off the shoulder. In the red version, I'll do this right.

Otherwise, I think this is pretty wearable. I don't love the fabric on me (why? I love orange so much, it just doesn't look that good on me though), but its a nice, summer dress that I'll get a lot of use out of.

What do you think? Belt? No belt? Different belt?

Very cute! I like it without the belt!

I agree. No belt. It is super cute though.

I have a thing about yellow. Love the color, HATE it on me. It makes my indian complexion very green. Yuck. You won't find a single thing in my closet that is yellow.

Great looking muslin! I think the color looks good on you. I say no belt - unless it's made out of coordinating fabric (maybe something to pull out the blue?) Looking forward to seeing your final version of this dress.

It's very cute and totally wearable, the fit is great! I agree that the black(?) belt looks a little bit heavy for the summery print dress so vote for no belt.

Very wearable. Looks good. But, no belt or a different belt. Also, skinny belts are back this season with color I think.

I think it looks great without the belt but you could also work it with a lighter belt. I think the black is a little too harsh.

This looks like a successful muslin! I say no belt or skinny belt.

I like it without the belt too. Very cute dress! What about making a self-fabric belt? That would be so retro!

i think I will have to disagree the belt makes it so modern. Maybe a different colour, but yes to a belt. although it still looks great without the belt.
