Blue Cardigan - BWOF 08-2011-117

It's been a long while, dear Readers, that I've actually sewn a BWOF pattern in the same month the magazine came out. But when I spotted this blue fabric in Toronto (out shopping with Connie, Claire and Sue), I knew exactly what I wanted to make - BWOF 08-2011-117.

And so I did. This is a really simple cardigan - 4 pieces, sews up in a couple hours, tops. I did make a muslin, only because I wanted to see what the style would look like on me, before I sacrificed this pretty blue fabric.

The result? I like but not love this cardigan. I'm not entirely convinced that this is my cardigan - I think I look both older and fatter than I'd like to believe I am. But - hey - did I mention it sews up in 2 hours? (I have 3 versions of Vogue 1250 - sewn for exactly the same reason. What can I say? Some mistakes - I like to make over, and over, and over again.)

I just posted on my blog about an hour ago how I've just made something from the Burda magazine within the same month too - great minds think (boast?) alike! I quite like your cardigan, the blue colour is great and it drapes nicely over your fitted dress. But I do get what you mean about a voluminous garment adding volume to your body too

Lovely cardigan! Probably not something you'd wear as often but I like the pattern you chose for the fabric.

I rather like it! Very pretty fabric. It might look younger and more figure flattering if you tried it with belt layered on top or tied it loosely at the waist.

What a pretty cardigan. It the fabric lace? I like the way the black dress can be seen through the cardi fabric.

I love the fabric and that shade of blue is lovely on you.

I don't think it makes you look fatter. I think it makes you look taller because of the long line of it - it draws the eye up and down, rather than across. Also that thin sliver of black dress seen at center front is visually slimmer and elongating.

Regardless of our comments, it is your cardi and you should wear what you like and love and what makes you happy.

I love that cardigan on you. The fabric is fantastic, and combined with that pattern and that dress, it looks very sophisticated. Its a great payoff for only 2 hours of work.

I think you'll have a lot of options styling this cardigan. Have you considered wearing it with a shorter skirt or with pants?

This is gorgeous - out of all the fabric we bought that day, I think this is the nicest - well maybe that and my expensive silk I have not yet cut into!! Sue

"mistake?" I think not. It looks pretty awesome imo! Gorgeous colour for your complexion, and lovely drapey cardigans are such useful transitional pieces, don't you think?
Thanks for your comment, and isn't it funny that we are on opposite sides of the same ocean, yet "talking" (virtually) so easily? The internet and its instant cpntactability never ceases to amaze...
