Irrational sewing phobias

We all have them, right?

Mine are darts. I hate sewing darts. A dart can get me to procrastinate on a project for days and days...

Why is this coming up now, you ask? Because my current project, which I cut out in Myrtle Beach, is this dress.

Which has, count them, 34 darts to sew.

I therefore estimate that I'll be done with this dress in 2011.

The darts go by really, really fast! I made this dress and it's still one of my favorites.

One thing that makes me procrastinate is button holes and sewing buttons...I have so many projects that are almost finish, only the buttons left to do!

Thats a lot of darts - marking them all will be very boring I agree but think of the amazing fit you will be able to get!

I laughed when I saw this because I hate darts too! Especially the double-ended "fish-eye" ones. However, I do appreciate that they get taken care of early in the construction process.

Go for it. I made this dress and it came out great - the shape is super flattering. The darts aren't as hard as they look and the effort is well worth it!

This dart sewing tip from Threads magazine is how I prepare darts for sewing. You can use it for double-ended darts too. I mark my darts with a tracing wheel on the right side (outside) of the garment, and thread baste them from the outside too. When you pull the thread taut, your dart is ready to stitch.

Have a fabulous vacay! Take lots of pictures for us!
